Overview
- The Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies (IAMO) and Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg invite applications for the jointly appointed W3 Professorship for "Economics of international agri-food chains and trade".
- Position combined with Head of the Department of Agricultural Markets and member of the IAMO Board of Directors.
- Appointment to be made as of 1 April 2028.
Tasks
- Lead research on the transformation of agri-food systems in formerly centrally planned economies from an agricultural, development, or other applied economics perspective.
- Emphasize interdependencies between transition economies and global markets
- Develop and apply theories and methods related to market/supply chain structures and price formation; international trade/geopolitics; food safety/food security; consumer economics.
- Demonstrate a strong track record in modern quantitative methods (econometrics, structural modelling, partial/general equilibrium models, data science, or choice experiments).
- Foster early-career researchers; lead research groups; develop programmes; secure national/international funding.
- Teach two semester hours per week in the MSc Agricultural Sciences programme; teach in English.
- Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration within the university and with non-university research institutes; support project acquisition and management.
Requirements
- Outstanding record of research in transformation of agri-food systems in transition economies from an economics perspective.
- Expertise in at least one of: market/supply chain structures and price formation; international trade/geopolitics; food safety/food security; consumer economics.
- Strong background in modern quantitative methods (econometrics, structural modelling, partial/general equilibrium, data science, etc.).
- Experience in transdisciplinary research; ability to build bridges between academia, business, and society; commitment to mentoring early-career researchers; leadership experience and funding success.
- Willingness and ability to teach in English; cooperative, team-oriented working style; strong communication skills.
- Fulfilling appointment requirements per Saxony-Anhalt Higher Education Act; habilitation or equivalent achievements; teaching qualifications.

Conditions
