The positions
- We offer several PhD positions to work towards a Ph.D. in anthropology, biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, evolutionary genetics, human behavioral ecology, psychology, and related fields.
- Candidates may apply to up to three selected departments or research groups (Molecular Anthropology; Human History, Evolution and Ecology; Language, Culture and Cognition)
- Graduate students will be accepted to one area but can participate in courses and seminars in all of them.
- The program is based in Leipzig, Germany, at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology and Leipzig University.
The positions
- Graduate students will work towards a Ph.D. in their chosen discipline.
- Active participation in program courses, seminars, and related activities.
- Conduct independent research under supervision within the selected department or research group.
Requirements
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in anthropology, biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, evolutionary genetics, human behavioral ecology, psychology, or related fields.
- Degree must be earned prior to the start of the program.
- Fluent in written and spoken English; German language courses available for international students.
What we offer
- Max Planck support contracts (65 percent of Pay Group 13 TVöD) provided by the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology.
- Ph.D. contracts provided by the University of Leipzig or by third-party funding.
