The Faculty of Economics and Management of Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU) in cooperation with the Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH) seeks to fill two positions at the rank of Assistant Professor (W1) in Financial Economics to begin in October 2027.
OVGU is an internationally oriented and regionally networked university with a strong research profile. The appointment is in collaboration with IWH, one of the Leibniz Association economic research institutes.
The successful candidates will join IWH’s Department of Laws, Regulations and Factor Markets and the Financial Markets Department, respectively, and will strengthen the joint research focus in Finance between IWH and OVGU.
German language knowledge is desirable but not required.

Teach in the Faculty’s Bachelor and Masters Programmes and in the PhD program of IWH DPE.
Contribute to research in Financial Economics with a focus on Labor and Finance, Financial Intermediation, or Corporate Finance.
Collaborate with IWH on joint research initiatives and participate in the joint Finance research focus of IWH and OVGU.

PhD in Economics or Finance completed by summer 2027 at the latest.
Potential for publications in leading international journals.
Ideally an emerging international network of research collaborations.
Willingness to teach in undergraduate, masters, and PhD programs; German language knowledge desirable but not mandatory.

Civil servant status with limited tenure (Beamtenverhältnis auf Zeit).
Initial contract duration of three years, with possible extension by a further three years upon positive evaluation.

Initial three-year contract with possibility of extension for another three years based on performance.
