Overview

At the Institute of Mathematical Stochastics within the Faculty of Mathematics at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, a W3 Professorship in Statistics and Mathematical Foundations of Data Science is to be filled as of April 1, 2027.
The Faculty of Mathematics at OVGU has a strong research profile and offers a broad and high-quality teaching portfolio across six degree programmes.
The professorship is located at the Institute of Mathematical Stochastics, one of the four institutes within the Faculty, and is part of the institute’s strategic development, with a concurrent advertisement for a W2 Professorship in Applied Statistics and Data Science.

Teaching in the degree programmes of the Faculty of Mathematics.
Further development of the Faculty’s Statistics programmes as well as service teaching for other faculties.
Teaching should enable students to develop a theoretically grounded and critical approach to statistical methods and AI-based data analysis.
Independent teaching and the ability to teach in both German and English.
Publishings that establish the candidate’s scientific profile and expertise in statistics and data science.

Excellent academic qualifications, evidenced by a doctoral degree in mathematics, statistics, or a related field.
Publications that clearly establish scientific profile and expertise in the above-mentioned areas.
Further academic achievements in accordance with § 35(3) HSG-LSA or a habilitation are required for appointment.
Ability to teach in both German and English.
