Overview

Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU) invites applications for a W2 Professorship in Applied Statistics and Data Science at the Institute of Mathematical Stochastics, Faculty of Mathematics.
The appointment is to be filled as of April 1, 2027.
The position is part of the institute’s strategic development and linked to concurrent postings for related professorships.
The appointee is expected to teach in the mathematics degree programs and to contribute to service teaching for other faculties, with a focus on data science and AI methods grounded in mathematics.

Teaching in the degree programs of the Faculty of Mathematics and service teaching for other faculties.
Prepare students for the critical and reflective use of statistical and AI-based methods.
Expand the curriculum through new modules.
Provide statistical consulting and methodological support to researchers at OVGU.

Doctoral degree in mathematics, statistics, or a related field.
Publications that demonstrate scientific profile and expertise in the specified areas.
Excellent academic qualifications as required by OVGU standards.
Further academic achievements in accordance with § 35(3) HSG-LSA or a habilitation for appointment.

Development programmes for newly appointed professors.

Start date: 1 April 2027.
