Overview
- The department of Phytopathology and Plant Protection at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Faculty of Natural Sciences III, Institute of Agricultural and Nutritional Sciences, led by Prof. Dr. Thorsten Langner, is offering a full-time position as Research Associate / Postdoctoral researcher (m/f/d) for a fixed term of 3 years.
- Our group investigates how plant-pathogenic fungi adapt to their host plants in order to cause diseases in crop plants. The aim of the advertised project is to investigate how structural variation in the genome affect the epigenetic regulation, molecular evolution, and function of virulence effector proteins of Magnaporthe oryzae.
Job Responsibilities
- Independent execution of bioinformatic analyses and molecular biology projects
- Participation in the acquisition of third-party funding
- Preparation of scientific publications
- Involvement in teaching within the degree programmes in Agricultural and Crop Sciences, conducting courses (according to LVVO), supervision of qualification theses (Bachelor, Master), co-supervision of students in the laboratory and during research internships
- Organisation and maintenance of standardised workflows in the laboratory
- Assistance with administrative tasks, co-maintenance of equipment and devices in the laboratories and plant cultivation rooms of the professorship
Requirements
- Completed academic university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Biology, Agricultural Sciences or comparable fields of study
- Completed doctorate in Biology, Agricultural Sciences or comparable disciplines
- Scientific publications in internationally recognised journals
- Strong interest in scientific research and teaching
- Experience in bioinformatics
- Experience in molecular biology work desirable
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
- German language skills are an advantage
- Excellent communication and information competencies, goal-oriented and structured independent working, strong initiative and excellent team skills
