Overview
- The Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies (IAMO) in Halle (Saale) offers a PhD position embedded in the EU Horizon project “Strength2Farm: Strengthening Farmers’ Position in EU Food Value Chains”.
- Application deadline: June 30, 2026
- Starting date: preferably August 1st, 2026, or earlier
- Position: 65% at the E13 TV-L level (German public services scheme)
- Duration: 36 months
- Work place: IAMO, Halle (Saale), Germany
- The position focuses on researching bargaining power and coordination in European agri-food value chains, developing an integrated modelling framework combining economic theory with computational and empirical approaches, and creating tools for scenario analysis.
Tätigkeiten
- Design of an agent-based model (ABM)
- Complement ABM with econometric and machine-learning methods
- Development of interactive tools for scenario analysis
- Collaborate with stakeholders through participatory workshops
What you should bring
- Master’s degree in agricultural economics, environmental/resource economics, industrial engineering, business informatics, or a related field
- Interest in agent-based or simulation modelling and artificial intelligence
- Curiosity and a high personal commitment to research
- Proficiency in oral and written German and English
- Strong communication and team work skills, willingness for solution-oriented acting
