Job context
- The Faculty of Natural Sciences I, Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology and the Interdisciplinary Collaborative Research Centre 1664 Plant Proteoform Diversity – SNP2Prot at Martin Luther University Halle Wittenberg is seeking a full-time Head of a postdoctoral research group for a fixed term of 5 years.
- Remuneration up to pay grade E14 TV-L; the call is open only to women; under FEM POWER Vision project for gender equality and STEM retention.
- As a junior research group leader, you will lead a major research project independently with your own budget and may fill the post of a research assistant once the group is established. Teaching experience can be gained to support professorship eligibility.
Job Responsibilities
- Conducting pioneering, innovative and independent research into the structure and function of biologically relevant macromolecules
- Establishment and management of an independent research group
- Supervising and guiding the staff of the early career research group, including PhD students, and managing the associated staffing, workspace and activities
- Active participation in SFB 1664 ‘Diversity of Plant Proteomorphs’ – SNP2Prot and other relevant research networks, including local non university research institutions
- Acquisition of third party funding
- Presentation and publication of the results in academic journals and at conferences, amongst other venues
- Active teaching in the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in Biochemistry
- Participation in the university’s administrative self governance
- There is an opportunity to pursue the own academic qualification through a habilitation or an equivalent qualification
Requirements
- A completed university degree and a PhD in biochemistry or a related discipline
- Excellent knowledge of the structure and function of biologically relevant macromolecules
- Relevant teaching experience is desirable
- A proven track record in research into the structure and function of biologically relevant macromolecules using modern experimental methods
- Relevant publications in international peer reviewed journals, preferably as first or corresponding Author
- An interest in interdisciplinary cooperation and collaboration
- An interest in securing additional external funding and relevant experience in drafting funding Applications
- Excellent teaching skills combined with outstanding communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work independently
- Fluency in spoken and written German and English
- A willingness to undertake undergraduate teaching in German
- Commitment, leadership skills and the ability to work in a team, organisational skills
